Sonivre Help

Everything you need to get the most out of Sonivre on iPhone, iPad and Android, from importing your first book to the on-device AI voice, the widget and sync across devices.

Get started in 3 steps

I

Import a book

Tap the + button at the top right, then File, Photo or Cloud. You can also send an EPUB or PDF from another app: Share on iPhone, Open with on Android.

II

Pick a voice

Settings → Voice. System voices are free. Kokoro AI (Sonivre Pro, 7-day free trial) gives a more natural voice that runs 100% on your device.

III

Press play

Tap a book, then ▶. Your progress is saved automatically, and the mini player stays available on every screen.

Tip: Kokoro AI and the voices marked "Offline" work on a plane, in the subway or with no connection at all. Nothing is sent anywhere: the voice is computed on your phone.

Sync across devices (Sonivre Pro)

iPhone and iPad: your reading position (chapter and paragraph) syncs through iCloud at every pause. Nothing to set up, as long as your devices use the same Apple ID.

Android: Settings → Sync & reminders, then connect your Google account. Positions, bookmarks and, if you turn it on, the books themselves are stored in a "Sonivre" folder in your own Drive. Sonivre can only access the files it created.

Audio keeps playing when you leave the app or lock your phone. Playback controls are available on the lock screen, in the notification (Android), in Control Center (iPhone) and on your headphones.

Advanced tips

Import from any app

iPhone: Mail, Safari, Files, Drive, Dropbox… any app that offers an EPUB or PDF in the share sheet can send it to Sonivre. Tap Share, then Sonivre.

Android: in Files, Gmail or Drive, open the file with "Open with" → Sonivre. From Sonivre itself, + → File opens the system file picker, which also shows your Google Drive.

Read a page from a photo

+ → Photo: pick a picture of a page. The text is recognized on your device and added to your library as a short book.

Get more voices

iPhone: iOS Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices, pick a language and download a voice labeled "Enhanced" or "Premium". Sonivre picks up new voices the next time it starts.

Android: Settings → Voice → "+ Add voices" opens Android's text-to-speech settings, where you can download more voices. Voices marked "Offline" work without a connection; try them with "Test the voice".

Export your bookmarks

Open the book's page, then tap the share icon next to "Bookmarks". Three formats:

FAQ

How do I import an EPUB from an email?
On iPhone, open the attachment in Mail, tap Share, then Sonivre. On Android, tap the attachment in Gmail and choose "Open with" → Sonivre. The book is added to your library, with its cover if the file has one.
Why does the Kokoro AI voice sound more natural?
Kokoro is a neural text-to-speech model with 82 million parameters, trained on hours of human speech, and included in Sonivre Pro. Default system voices are simpler synthetic voices. Enhanced voices on iPhone, and some offline voices on Android, are neural too.
Is my data sent over the internet?
Not your books. Kokoro runs entirely on your phone and offline system voices are local, so reading needs no connection. With Sonivre Pro, your reading position is synced through iCloud (iPhone) or your own Google Drive (Android). The app sends technical crash reports (Sentry) for stability. Details in the privacy policy.
Can I read scanned pages?
Yes. Sonivre recognizes text on the device in photos of pages (+ → Photo) and in image-based PDFs. The result is saved in your library like any other book.
How do I change the voice?
Settings → Voice, then pick the system voices or Kokoro AI. For system voices, choose a specific voice in the list and filter by language (French, English, All).
Audio stops when I lock my phone. Is that normal?
No. Sonivre is built to keep reading in the background. If audio stops, check that battery saver isn't restricting Sonivre: on iPhone, Low Power Mode; on Android, Settings → Apps → Sonivre → Battery → Unrestricted.
How do I sync between my devices?
With Sonivre Pro. Between an iPhone and an iPad, sync goes through iCloud with no setup. On Android, connect your Google account in Settings → Sync & reminders; you can also sync the books themselves.
How much does Sonivre cost?
The download and basic use are free: EPUB/PDF/image import, system voices, background playback, bookmarks, collections, statistics, widget. The Sonivre Pro subscription (€4.99/month or €29.99/year, 7-day free trial) unlocks the Kokoro AI voice, word highlighting and sync across devices. You manage and cancel it from the App Store or Google Play.

Troubleshooting

The widget doesn't update

The widget updates as soon as you start or pause playback in the app. If it stays empty:

  1. Open a book once in Sonivre
  2. Press play: the widget updates
  3. If it still doesn't, remove the widget and add it again

Kokoro AI doesn't work

Check that:

If Kokoro fails, Sonivre falls back to the system voice so reading never stops.

EPUB import fails

Common causes:

Playback stops in the background

  1. Start playback in the app before leaving it
  2. iPhone: turn off Low Power Mode and allow Background App Refresh for Sonivre
  3. Android: set Sonivre's battery usage to Unrestricted

Highlighting doesn't show

Word highlighting is a Sonivre Pro feature. Turn it on in Settings → Reading. It works with Kokoro AI and with voices that report word positions (Enhanced voices on iPhone, most offline voices on Android).
