Alice was beginning to get very tired of sitting by her sister on the bank, and of having nothing to do.
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland — Lewis Carroll, Chapter I
How it works
Four screens are all it takes to understand Sonivre.
Import EPUB and PDF files from the app, or send them from another app with Share (iPhone) or Open with (Android). Sonivre splits each book into chapters and remembers your progress in every one.
With Sonivre Pro, every spoken word is highlighted in the text as it is read. A visual guide when you want to follow along, or just check where you are, kept in sync with the voice word by word.
Your books stay on your device. View, export or delete your data at any time, in line with articles 17 and 20 of the GDPR. No account, no ads, no ad tracking.
The Kokoro AI voice is part of Sonivre Pro, with a 7-day free trial. On iPhone it ships with the app, with nothing extra to download. It is a neural speech engine that runs entirely on your device, with no network delay.
And also
The details that matter when you listen for hours every day.
Organize your books by theme, series or reading priority.
With Sonivre Pro, your progress syncs between your devices automatically at every pause: through iCloud on iPhone and iPad, through your own Google Drive on Android.
Words per minute, sessions and streaks: your reading pace, measured.
Export your favorite passages as Markdown or JSON.
A continuous slider from 0.5× to 3× to find the right pace.
End of chapter or countdown, for falling asleep to a book.
Built with care
A React Native layer, native Swift and Kotlin extensions and an embedded ONNX AI engine, with no cloud dependency.
Frequently asked questions
Privacy, supported formats, pricing, accessibility.
Yes, reading works offline. The Kokoro AI voice (Sonivre Pro) is an ONNX neural model that runs on your phone's processor. No audio or text from your books is sent to a server. Offline system voices are local as well.
EPUB (standard e-books) and PDF. For scanned pages or photos, the app uses on-device text recognition (OCR) to extract the text automatically.
The download and basic use are free: EPUB/PDF/image import, system voices, background playback, bookmarks, collections, widget. The Sonivre Pro subscription (€4.99/month or €29.99/year, 7-day free trial) unlocks the Kokoro AI voice, word highlighting and sync across devices. You manage and cancel it from the App Store or Google Play.
Kokoro is an open-source neural text-to-speech model with 82 million parameters (Apache 2.0), included in Sonivre Pro. Sonivre runs it locally with ONNX Runtime, which gives a clearly more natural voice than standard system voices while staying 100% on the device. On iPhone the model ships with the app; on Android it downloads once (325 MB) the first time you use it.
Word highlighting is a Sonivre Pro feature. With system voices, Sonivre uses the speech engine's word boundaries for precise highlighting. With Kokoro AI, highlighting follows the actual audio position.
Sonivre is available on iPhone and iPad. The Android version is coming soon to Google Play (currently in internal testing). No web version is planned.
Yes. On iOS 17 and later, the widget's play/pause/previous/next buttons control playback without reopening the app, through AppIntents. On iOS 14 to 16, tapping the widget opens the app at the current position.
Real-time word highlighting, combined with adjustable reading speed and the option of a slower voice, makes Sonivre especially useful for people with dyslexia or low vision, and for language learners.
Yes, with Sonivre Pro. On iPhone and iPad, Sonivre syncs your reading position (chapter and paragraph) through iCloud at every pause, with no setup, across all devices signed in to the same Apple ID. On Android, you connect your Google account once: positions, bookmarks and, if you want, the books themselves are stored in a "Sonivre" folder in your own Drive.
Free download on the App Store, optional Sonivre Pro subscription. Your books, your voice, your pace.
